The passage utilizes the example of two lions on the Serengeti. Through this example, the writer concludes that "we might be

able to agree on the outcome without actually having the fight." In other words, the writer is stating that the purpose of using

stories and signals is to avoid certain deaths by communicating what possible outcome is most likely instead of acting out on a

violent impulse. Likewise, both quotes from Whitehead and Peterson emphasizes the role of using ideas to deter the

likelihood of falling fatally ill.
